Some key things to keep in mind while writing your article
While UNIWiki welcomes all topics related to HIV and AIDS, there are some things to keep in mind while writing your article. Don't worry if you make mistakes like these initially (after all, being a wiki, anyone can fix them!) but try to continually improve any articles or stories you submit.
Grammar Points
- While HIV should always be capitalized, it is acceptable to write either AIDS or Aids depending on your personal preference.
- Because people represent dates differently in different countries, it is important to write out any dates you use. For example, instead of listing a date as 11/06/07, (which can be either November 6, 2007 or June 11, 2007 depending on which country you are from) write out the full date listing both the full month and year, i.e. November 6, 2007.
- Feel free to use either British spellings or American spellings, depending on your personal preference.
- GOOD WRITING AVOIDS THE USE OF ALL CAPS!
- good writing also avoids using only lowercase (unless you're quoting, say, e.e. cummings.)
- Avoid using profanity
- Avoid using emoticons :)
- Avoid using SMS abbreviations- (i.e. cu l8r)
- Avoid excessive punctuation!!!
Titles
- You do not need to capitalize prepositions or other minor grammatical articles within titles. This includes in, of, on, and, or, and the. However, you should capitalize significant words, e.g. Life in the Tiny Town, not Life In The Tiny Town.
- Exception: Capitalize the first and last words of titles: The World We Live In, not The World We Live in.
